FAQ's

Question:
Which boat / crew do you recommend?

Answer:

  • I get this question a lot and the truth is that every boat I offer to my clients has earned their spot on the Don Chingon Team, by proving the highest standard of quality customer service as well as fishing ability and skill over the last several years!

  • All of my boats and crews all fish the same style, same techniques and the same spots and do their best to find the fish.

  • So when choosing which boat, it really just comes down to your group size and what size/style boat that you prefer. Just be aware of the max capacity listed for each boat and whichever boat appeals to you the most, just book that boat and I promise you will have a good time!

  • Please note that Captain Travis does go on some of the trips but due to high demand, he is not always available.

Question:
Where are you located?

Answer:

  • Each of my boats are at a different marina in the Cancun area.  First find the boat that you are interested in, click the "Book" button and you will be directed to a detailed page with more info and a google map link and address to the boat you are interested in. CLICK HERE to check out the boats!

Question:
Do you offer transportation?

Answer:

  • Yes, we can provide round trip transportation for an additional fee.  At time of check-out, just add the transportation option and enter the name of your hotel.

  • However, picking you up from the hotel is the easy part... The most complicated part about transportation is the return trip.  Drivers have a schedule that must be strictly adhered to.  So, if you are late returning back to the dock or if you want to eat your catch at the Marina restaurant, or if you are waiting for your fish to be cleaned, the driver will not be able to wait for you unfortunately.

  • Luckily, each marina is conveniently located near major roads and there are plenty of taxis ready to take you back to your hotel.  Just ask the Captain or Crew to assist you in getting a taxi and they will gladly help you out.

  • If you are arranging your own transportation, there will be an address and Google map link in your confirmation email as well as instructions once you arrive to the marina.

  • We charge a flat rate of $150 dollars for round trip transportation at check-out but please keep in mind the price could be more or less depending on the number of people in your group.  After you make the reservation, transportation cost will be adjusted accordingly.

Question:
What are you catching this time of year?

Answer:

  • The most common species offshore here are Sailfish, Mahi Mahi, Wahoo, Blackfin Tuna, Grouper, Snapper, Amberjack, Yellow-Jack, Horse-eyed jack, Barracuda, King-fish, Trigger fish.

Sailfish - Nov - June

Marlin - Summer time (rare)

Mahi Mahi - Summer time

Wahoo - Same as Sailfish (Nov - )

*All other species are year-round

  • Fishing conditions change day to day and weather/sea conditions are a major factor in determining where we can go and what we will target.

  • Unless you are coming to Cancun for the sole purpose of catching a specific trophy species, I wouldn't worry to much about what you're going to catch.

  • Trust me when I say this, "My self, my Captain's and Crew's want to catch the biggest, baddest and highest quantity of fish possible". Just come on board and the Captain will let you know your options based on weather conditions and whats biting and together you can make a plan of action for the day. It's your trip and you can do whatever you would like to do and fish however you would like.

  • We are lucky to be able catch pretty much the same species year round but there are some months that we are better than others for certain species.

Question:
Do you offer Catch and Cook?

Answer:

  • Yes! However, since each boat is in a different location, please just ask the Captain where you can take your fish to have it prepared.  Some boats have a restaurant at the marina and some do not and you will need to take a taxi to a restaurant that the Captain suggests.

  •  If you want to take the fish to your hotel to have it prepared there, please check with the Chef of the hotel to ensure its okay, you don't want to bring fish back to the hotel just to find out they wont prepare it for you.

  • Whatever fish you do not take, the Captain and Crew will divide it between themselves to share with their families and friends.  No fish goes to waste!

  • We do not assist with fish shipping back home.  The best fish is fresh fish and we recommend that you have your fresh fish prepared for you the same day or day after your trip if you have the ability to keep it cold.
